HONG KONG, 7 November, 2014 – Perceived as one of the best outdoor lawn bowls competition in the world, the Hong Kong International Bowls Classic will be back to Hong Kong this month.

World class bowlers from both gender will join local stars to compete in the “CCC 120th Anniversary Hong Kong International Bowls Classic” from November 8 to 16.

Craigengower Cricket Club (CCC) is sponsoring the event to celebrate its 120 year of service to the Hong Kong sports community.

In last year’s competition, the Scotland team Iain McLean and Robert Grant win the Pairs trophy while England bowler Richard Catton won the Singles. In the women’s competition, Carla Odgers leaded her Australian team to win the Women’s Pairs, while Scotland lady bowler Lorraine Malloy won the Singles.

The 2014 event will see the defending champions joining top bowlers from 13 of the world’s strongest bowling nations and elite Hong Kong players to compete in the singles and pairs competitions.


This year, bowls authorities from Australia, Canada, China, England, Fiji, Ireland, Malaysia, New Zealand, Philippines, Scotland, Singapore, Thailand and Wales will send their top international bowlers to the Classic.

The Event Format

The Singles is a knockout competition that will be played on Nov. 8-9 at the three venues, with the finals being held at the Craigengower Cricket Club on the afternoon of Nov. 9. The 64 competitors include overseas bowlers and Hong Kong’s top bowlers comprising winners of national Singles events and qualifiers from local clubs.

The Pairs is a seven day competition. Twenty-four teams of each gender will be divided into two groups to play out a round robin competition.  The top team from each group will enter the semi-finals directly, while the second and third place will meet in a play-off to fight for places in the semi-finals. The final will be played at the Craigengower Cricket Club in the afternoon of Nov. 16.

The annual event, which includes Singles and Pairs competitions, it will be held at the Craigengower Cricket Club, Hong Kong Football Club and Indian Recreation Club from Nov. 8-9. Pairs will be held from Nov. 10-16. Spectators are welcome and admission is free.
