Scottish Robert Grant strikes gold at Classic
HONG KONG, November 9, 2014 – Scottish bowler Robert Grant continued his wonderful journey at the Hong Kong International Bowls Classic with a Singles title today. Grant was the champion in the Pairs competition last year and is returning to defend the title.
Grant defeated Muhammad Hizlee from Malaysia in the final to take his second title at the Classic. He will start to defend his Pairs title with teammate Steven Allan from Monday, November 10 onward.
Another Malaysian and a runners-up in 2010, Siti Zalina finally got her hand on the Singles trophy after defeated Sonia Bruce from Philippines in the final.
Sponsored by Craigengower Cricket Club (CCC) to celebrate its 120 year of service to the Hong Kong sports community, the “CCC 120th Anniversary Hong Kong International Bowls Classic” began with the Singles from yesterday and will continue with the Pairs competition. The final of the Pairs will be on next Sunday.
This year, bowlers from Australia, Canada, China, England, Fiji, Ireland, Malaysia, New Zealand, Philippines, Scotland, Singapore, Thailand and Wales has participated in the tournament.
The annual event, which includes Singles and Pairs competitions, it will be held at the Craigengower Cricket Club, Hong Kong Football Club and Indian Recreation Club from Nov. 8-9. Pairs will be held from Nov. 10-16. Spectators are welcome and admission is free.
