Hong Kong Bowlers top Asian Championship

HONG KONG, 9 December, 2014 – The Hong Kong lawn bowls team achieved their biggest ever success at the Asian Championship, winning five gold medals and the overall champion at the event which was concluded today, December 9, 2014.  The team also won medals in all the categories entered, winning an addition of three silvers and two bronzes.

 

 

 

The gold medals came from men’s singles and pairs, women’s singles and pairs, as well as the U25 girls singles.

 

 

 

Hong Kong’s Tony Cheung defeated Hommer Mercado from the Philippines to lift the men’s singles title, and went on to partner Stanley Lai to win the pairs.

 

 

 

In the women’s section, Dorothy Yu defeated India representative Lovely Choubey to win her women’s singles gold medal.  Before that she partnered Helen Cheung to take gold at the pairs, also against the India team in the final.

 

 

 

Hong Kong’s last gold came from 22 years old Vivian Yip, who took the U25 Junior singles by defeating Malaysian girl Nur Ain Nabilah Binti Tarmizi.

 

 

 

The 10th Asian Lawn Bowls Championship 2014, featured 10 strong bowling countries in the region, was held from December 3 to 9 at Bijiashan Park, Shenzhen, China. With China as host, Brunei, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Macau, Malaysia, Pakistan, Philippines and Singapore also participated.
